Autumn 2011 Collection

23 SEPTEMBER 2011: The Rose Mortem Autumn 2011 Collection was released September 23. Rose describes the collection as a tribute to the the literary dark romantic: ethereal fabrics such as lace and organza are paired with the decadent opulence of iridescent taffeta and velvet. Layered circle skirts, bias-cut gowns, tiered lace petticoats and even a fitted, hooded velvet dress cloak comprise the full collection. True to their inspiration, each design has been named in honor of a feminine heroine of literature, ranging from Greek tragedy to Irish folk ballad.

Rose names her favourite fashion designer Madeleine Vionnet as an ongoing inspiration for her commitment to create designs that are timeless in their aesthetic appeal. Rose explains: "Vionnet described herself as an "enemy of fashion" - and she stated her belief that there was "something superficial and volatile about the seasonal and elusive whims of fashion which offends my sense of beauty." I empathize with her sentiments. Beauty, I believe, should not be marginalized by limiting its existence to the 'eye of the beholder.' There are certain elements of the human form which have appealed to our aesthetic sensibilities as a human race likely since the dawn of time - I view my work as a celebration of those timeless elements."

Rose Mortem's first fashion line was released in 1998, with an online store following in 1999. Since that time, the label's designs have been featured in books, movies, theatre productions, music videos, and print publications internationally. Rose's inspiration for her fashion work predominantly lies within her multifaceted artistic endeavors; she is the keyboardist and pianist for The Awakening, and a published poet and essayist. Her fashions are sold in over thirty countries, with a client base in the thousands.
